Jr Winterhawks / Alaska Nanook Hockey Camp

Welcome to the collaboration between the Jr Winterhawks and the University of Alaska Fairbanks!

Our camp is designed for athletes who are passionate about improving their skills and taking their game to the next level. We offer three distinct levels tailored to different age groups: 10U, 12U, and 14U/16u

About Coach Erik Largen

The camp is led by Erik Largen, the esteemed Head Coach of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks Men's Hockey Team. Coach Largen, a Fairbanks native and former Alaska goaltender, became the program's 10th head coach on April 30, 2018. At the time of his hiring, he was the youngest ever NCAA Ice Hockey head coach at 31 years of age. He first joined the Nanooks bench in August 2016 as an assistant coach and has been instrumental in the team's success ever since, including a record 13 year winning streak over their arch rivals, the Seawolves from the University of Alaska Anchorage in the annual Alaska Airlines Governors Cup series.

Largen was named the everythingcollegehockey.com National Coach of the Year for the 2022-23 season, in which the Nanooks secured their most wins in a single season since 2002 for a top-16 finish in the national rankings which included road victories over #1 Denver and Notre Dame and a four game sweep of Arizona State.

Coach Largen brings a wealth of experience from various coaching positions, including head coach of Marian University and assistant coach for the NAHL’s Fairbanks Ice Dogs. His commitment to player development and community involvement has made a significant positive impact on the program.
